Recognizing the Coaches Behind CBCT

Behind every successful basketball team stands a dedicated coach whose leadership, experience, and commitment inspire players to perform at their very best. Since the launch of the Caribbean Basketball Club Tournament (CBCT), coaches from Suriname and Guyana have played a vital role in building the tournament into a respected regional competition. Their work extends far beyond the sidelines, as they mentor young athletes, develop winning strategies, and help strengthen the sport throughout the Caribbean.

On the Surinamese side, SCVU has benefited from the leadership of Lesley Danradj, Mickey Elstak, and Errol Landolf, who have guided the club to back-to-back CBCT championships. SV De Arend has been led by Humphrey Eendragt, Dwight Berkleef, and Kevin Eiloof, whose dedication helped the club reach the championship game during the Guyana Return Edition. Koi Carper has proudly been represented by Ludwig Belgrave and Michel Bendt, whose commitment continues to contribute to the development of basketball in Suriname.

From Guyana, Ravens Basketball Club has been coached by Marlon Rodrigues, leading his team to a runner-up finish in the inaugural edition and a third-place finish in the second edition. Pacesetters Basketball Club has been guided by Coach Bruche, while Eagles Basketball Club has been under the leadership of Adrian Hooper. Together, these coaches have helped create highly competitive games that continue to raise the standard of basketball in the region.

The CBCT proudly recognizes the dedication of every coach who has contributed to the tournament’s success. Their passion for the game, commitment to player development, and belief in fair competition have been essential to the growth of the tournament. As CBCT continues to expand and welcome clubs from across the Caribbean and South America, these coaches serve as an inspiration for the next generation of players and coaches alike.

The Caribbean Basketball Club Tournament extends its sincere appreciation to all coaches who have helped shape the tournament’s history and looks forward to welcoming many more coaching leaders in future editions.

Great coaches don’t just build winning teamsโ€”they build confident leaders, stronger communities, and a lasting legacy for the game.

Throughout the first two editions of the Caribbean Basketball Club Tournament, the influence of experienced coaching has been clearly visible on the court. The tactical discipline, team chemistry, and competitive spirit displayed by the participating clubs reflect the countless hours these coaches dedicate to training, preparation, and player development. Beyond pursuing victories, they focus on building character, promoting teamwork, and preparing athletes to compete at a higher regional level. Their commitment has not only strengthened their own clubs but has also contributed to the overall growth and professionalism of the CBCT. As more clubs from the Caribbean and South America join future editions, the exchange of coaching knowledge and experience will continue to raise the standard of basketball throughout the region.

As the Caribbean Basketball Club Tournament continues to grow, so does the opportunity for coaches to learn from one another. Every edition brings together different coaching styles, tactical approaches, and basketball philosophies from across the region. These exchanges not only improve the quality of competition but also encourage collaboration beyond the tournament itself. By sharing knowledge and experience, coaches help develop better players, stronger clubs, and a more competitive basketball environment throughout the Caribbean and South America.

The CBCT believes that investing in coaches is just as important as investing in players. Strong leadership on the sidelines creates disciplined teams, inspires young athletes, and builds a positive sporting culture that extends far beyond the final whistle. As new clubs join future editions of the tournament, the organizing committee looks forward to welcoming even more coaches who share the vision of using basketball as a tool for excellence, friendship, and regional development.

Looking Ahead

The coaches who have participated in the first two editions of the Caribbean Basketball Club Tournament have helped establish a strong foundation for the future of the event. Through their leadership, dedication, and commitment to player development, they have contributed to raising the standard of club basketball while strengthening the bond between Suriname, Guyana, and the wider Caribbean basketball community.

As CBCT continues to expand by welcoming new clubs from across the Caribbean and South America, the role of coaches will become even more important. They are not only responsible for preparing teams to compete but also for inspiring young athletes, promoting sportsmanship, and building lasting relationships through the game.
